Three invitations
for each project.
Each set includes a low-preparation entry, a collaborative activity, and a design or synthesis challenge.
01 · ReadImmersive Reader
Focus: voice, syntax, annotation, reading friction
Launch project ↗
20 min · individualFriction Log
Students tag three passages: one that slows them, one that disorients them, and one that rewards rereading. For each, they explain whether the friction is productive, avoidable, or unresolved.
DeliverableExported annotations plus a 150-word pattern statement.
35 min · groupsNarrator Relay
Assign each group a narrator. Groups identify what their narrator notices, avoids, and controls. Re-form mixed groups and reconstruct one event without declaring a single account correct.
DeliverableA three-column “notices / omits / distorts” chart.
50 min · designInterface Audit
Students choose one reader feature—spacing, color, image, motion, annotation, or navigation—and argue how it changes attention. They redesign the feature on paper without simplifying the prose.
DeliverableAnnotated wireframe and design rationale.
02 · SeeIllustrated Reader
Focus: visual rhetoric, sequence, interpretation
Launch project ↗
25 min · pairsObserve / Interpret / Question
Pairs select one plate and make three lists: visible facts, interpretive claims, and questions the image cannot answer. They then check which claims the prose supports or complicates.
DeliverableOne completed visual-analysis sheet.
45 min · analogThree-Frame Storyboard
Using index cards or folded paper, students storyboard a section as three images. Require one framing choice, one recurring motif, and one deliberate omission.
DeliverableThree frames with a 200-word curatorial note.
60 min · tldrawRemix the Plate
In tldraw offline, create a frame for each image. Add the prose excerpt as a note, arrange three drawn or imported visuals, and connect each visual choice to a motif with arrows. Export the final plate as PNG or PDF.
DeliverableDigital triptych plus rationale identifying what the images argue.
30 min · analogString-and-Card Route
Place location cards across a table and connect them with string. Students attach colored notes for delay, danger, decision, and loss. Let emotional distance alter the physical spacing.
DeliverablePhotograph plus a claim about the journey’s most consequential location.
45 min · tldrawCollaborative Reading Map
Create one frame for the route. Use geo shapes as locations, arrows as travel, and sticky notes for evidence. Color-code physical obstacles, changes in loyalty, and shifts in narration. Bind arrows to locations so the route remains connected while groups rearrange the map.
DeliverableExported map with at least six evidence-linked stops.
40 min · analysisDistance Is Not Miles
Students compare the digital route with the number of pages or sections devoted to each stop. They visualize the mismatch between geographic and narrative distance.
DeliverableA proportional map or chart and one interpretive paragraph.
04 · ExploreMy Mother Is a Fish
Focus: metaphor, discussion, multimodal interpretation
Launch project ↗
20 min · discussionFour Words, Four Claims
Groups generate four different readings of the sentence—literal, psychological, formal, and relational—then identify the evidence and assumptions behind each.
DeliverableFour-claim matrix with a strongest-reading vote.
35 min · analogImage / Silence / Response
Show one activity card without commentary. Students write what the image invites them to feel, what it withholds, and what the sentence changes after it appears.
DeliverableBefore-and-after response with one revised claim.
50 min · creationDesign a Fifth Card
Students choose another compressed moment from the novel and pair it with an original image, found public-domain image, or hand drawing. They write a discussion prompt that cannot be answered by summary.
DeliverableCard, attribution, prompt, and accessibility description.
